What a wild ride the class of 2024 has had since entering high school. They started their freshman year online due
to the pandemic and missed out on a lot of the fun festivities like the Homecoming dance, Spirit Week, and pep rallies. Later in their freshman year they finally were able to get a glimpse of what high school was like, but before they knew it, it was already summer vacation. When they came back Sophomore year things were still not completely back to normal, but they were in school full time. A couple months into the school year they got to participate in their first spirit week. Unfortunately, since Covid cases were still happening they did not get to have a pep rally, or a dance provided by the school. A former Lafayette student did however organize a dance at an alternate location so they could experience their first high school dance.
By their junior year things were starting to finally look back to normal. They participated in their second spirit week, first homecoming football game, first pep rally, and their first homecoming dance provided by the school. Later in the school year the upperclassman girls were able to participate in powder puff football and the upperclassman boys were their cheerleaders.
Now, as Seniors, the Class of 2024 went all out for their final Homecoming spirit week, pep rally, football game, and their dance. On Monday the theme was Multinational Monday and students got to represent which country they affiliated with. On Tuesday it was Tropical Tuesday. On Wednesday it was Adam Sandler movie day. On Thursday the Seniors took it back to the past for Throwback Thursday and dressed in togas like the Romans did. On Friday was Class Colors Day and the seniors finally got the privilege of wearing red. That morning all the Seniors gathered in the parking lot and then walked through the school as they were cheered on by the lowerclassman and their teachers.
During 4th block, the whole school gathered for a pep rally-the Seniors came in last and they stormed the gym as all the other classes cheered them on. After seeing a spectacular performance from the cheerleaders, all the classes played games, competing for the award of “Best Class”. After quite a few games the Seniors ended up winning the pep rally. They were all so excited and cheered loud and proud. This was only the second pep rally the Seniors have ever participated in, but it was also their last Homecoming rally.
Later that night was the Homecoming football game. This was one of the biggest footballs games the school has ever had because it was the 50th homecoming football game. 50 years of Lafayette Rams came together over the love of football and friendship. The Lafayette Rams played the Tabb Tigers and played an excellent game. During halftime was the annual crowning of the homecoming King and Queen. The nominees for the homecoming queen were Maria Basantas, Lourdes Mines, and Madison Walk. The nominees for the homecoming king were Anthony Jacinto, Hayden Olesky, Ernest Ruttley, and Nazeer Wolmart. The homecoming queen and king for the 2023-2024 school year was Maria Basantas and Hayden Olesky.
On Saturday the Seniors participated in their final Homecoming dance, and it truly was spectacular. The theme was “Diamonds and Gold”, and it was a night that everyone will remember. The class of 2024 has had an interesting high school experience but through all the ups and down this class has faced, they always know when to come together.
