Have you ever heard of the Lafayette Rams? Well now you have. Read this and find out why they’re so important. Here’s a hint, it’s because they’re the best team. Here is where you will find all you need to know about Lafayette’s winter sports teams. Winter sport teams we have are Varsity Girls’ Basketball, JV and Varsity Boys’ Basketball, Indoor Track, and Cheer. Lafayette is known for all of their sports throughout the school year. We have great athletes and many of them continue on to college or to play professional sports.

This season they have started 1-0 against Poquoson 38-33. They played Mecklenburg County in a tournament on 12/3. They won 67-10. They play Warhill 12/6 at home. They hope to again have a winning season.

Next is Boys’ Basketball. Last season they were 3-11. Their wins were against Tabb which was 68-41, Bruton 56-47, and New Kent 64-57. They were 9th in the Bay Rivers District. This season they have played 1 game. They are 0-1. They played Lakeland on Monday 11/29. Today on 12/2 they play Poquoson for the first home game of the season! Their next game after Poquoson will be Warhill at Warhill. They play at 7pm. It will be a good game to see who’s better to start the season! Varsity beat Warhill on 12/5 74-40. They play Bruton on 12/7. The Boy’s JV Basketball also played Lakeland on 11/29. They are 0-1 with that game.  They beat Poquoson 64-26 and they beat Warhill 70-29. They also play Bruton also on 12/7. Asa Fehrenbach dropped 20 points during the Warhill game and Kamari Scott had 18 points on the Warhill game. They were the leading players with the most points during the Warhill game. They are really trying to get revenge on this season for last year’s basketball losing season.

Lafayette Indoor Track is a very popular sport during the Winter! Lots of athletes do it in the Winter to prepare for spring sports or to stay consistent from their fall sports. There are over 60 students that do Indoor Track. Their first meet is around a week or 2 away. There are many students competing! The different events are pole vaulting, Sprint, Mid Distance, Long Distance, Hurdles, High Jump, Triple Jump, and Throwing.

Lafayette Basketball Cheer is back! Some of our 3A state champions of 2021-2022 school year join to cheer our winter sports on! They are at all home games to cheer on our Boys’ Basketball Teams both JV and Varsity. They don’t compete in any Winter competitions like they do in the fall, but they still support the Winter Sports to bring out the Lafayette school spirit.

I am glad that Lafayette Winter Sports are back. I hope that all of our Winter Sports do well this season and we can extend the season into Playoffs.
