The Drama is a new movie that is currently playing in theaters. The movie was released on April third, 2026. This movie is starring Zendaya Coleman as the lead female Emma, and Robert Pattinson playing the main male protagonist Charlie. Although this movie had a very promising cast and the trailer looked entertaining it was rated 76% rotten tomatoes, and I’m here to break down why that is because this movie had so much potential.
First of all, the acting in this movie was phenomenal, Zendaya Coleman and Robert Pattinson were incredibly believable with their characterization. Alana Haim who played the character Rachel played her so well, I have never hated a character so much and that has to do entirely with Alana Haim’s performance. The acting in this movie clearly wasn’t the reason so many people were unsatisfied with The Drama.

The story begins with a happy couple Emma and Charlie who are about to get married, and it starts with the story of how they met. Charlie spots Emma at a coffee shop and sees she is reading a book he is interested in her, so he lies about having read the book to try and impress Emma. They end up going out to dinner and Emma asks him about his opinion on the end of the book and if he thinks the girl actually died. Obviously, Charlie didn’t actually read the book, and he finally admits this and they laugh about it, but this would have been a great use of foreshadowing if the movie had ended differently. There were so many opportunities for this movie to be amazing, and I feel they just didn’t take them.

After this scene happens the movie skips ahead to Charlie and Emma wedding planning. They are doing a trial run for wedding food and drinks with their two close friends Rachel and Mike. They are all drinking and Rachel brings up the fact that before her and Mike’s wedding night they told each other the worst thing they had ever done. What Rachel reveals that she has done is arguably the worst. She states that when she was a kid, she locked her special needs neighbor in a closet in a RV in the woods, and the next day when police came to her house to ask her about her neighbor she lied and told them she hadn’t seen him. Emma goes to reveal that when she was a kid, she was super depressed and she planned a school shooting, she never ended up going through with it, but she had one planned out. After Emma reveals her secret the dynamic with their friends’ completely shifts.
During the rest of the movie there is an increased amount of tension between her and Charlie leading up to their wedding. Charlie starts going insane and thinks that Emma may kill him and this tension leads him to cheat on her, and it all gets revealed at their wedding. All the tension and buildup leave you waiting for a climax that just never happens. They get into a huge fight at the wedding then afterwords they go get food and the movie ends. So much more could’ve happened with this movie because I was invested till it just randomly ended. I felt like their needed to be a large ending or some sort of plot twist but that never happened. Overall the movie was so well made and produced it just lacked an ending which ultimately resulted in the horrible reviews the movie has received.
