Indoor Track at Lafayette
Lafayette’s Indoor Track team take on their first two meets on their way to States.
Senior runner Brenner Beard finishes strong on his last lap in the 4×8. Being the anchor for the relay, Brenner has a very important responsibility to finish the race fast. Brenner was able to finish the relay over half a lap before the other teams. The boys’ 4×8 also qualified for States with their finishing time.
With over one hundred runners in both the mile and two mile, some of the races were moved outside at the Christopher Newport University meet. Everyone in the two races, other than the fastest three heats, had to run outside. This makes the race conditions a lot different. The outside track is 400 meters, where the indoor track is 200 meters. This means that the mile is 8 laps inside and 4 laps outside and the two mile is 16 laps inside and 8 laps outside. The weather conditions are also very different. Despite the different race conditions, the runners took to the track and ran as best they could. Some of the Lafayette runners including Dru Dunn, Isabel O'Connor, Ainsley Lord, and Alli Crookston cheer on fellow runner Senior Scottie Coleman as she runs the mile. When asked about standing outside in the cold, Junior runner Dru Dunn said, "Rain or shine we will stand outside to cheer on our team. That's just how we are."
