Background 

Duane Keith “Keefe D” Davis, 60, is a member of a California-based gang, the South Side Compton Crips, was charged with the first-degree murder of Tupac Shakur in 1996. 

Davis, a well-known friend of the lead singer for the popular timed hip-hop group, N.W.A, claimed that he was in the front seat with the perpetrator, which was known as Terrence “T-Brown” Brown, when Shakur was shot.  

A detective from a similar area, Compton, California, filed a sworn statement naming Davis and his nephew, Orlando Anderson, as suspects for the murder. Two years later, Anderson was killed in a gang-related shootout in 1998. 

It is said that around three hours prior to the shooting, Anderson was seen involved in a fight with Shakur and his entourage while they were entering the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.  

In word of mouth from a homicide Lt. Larry Spinosa, told the media, “At this point, Orlando Anderson is not a suspect in the shooting of Tupac Shakur”. Eventually, Anderson was named a suspect with his uncle.  

Rumors spread around that Anderson bragged about shooting the rapper, which he denied in an interview with VIBE magazine. Anderson was detained in Compton along with 21 alleged gang members, the raid with those people only found because they were investigating local shootings in the area. 

All charges were dropped, due to the main suspects being killed. The case was postponed, except from Tupac’s mother filing a wrongful death notice, bit mostly due to a large amount of the case being involved with gang-related violence and issues.

  The case was brought back twenty years later when the original suspect, Duane Keith, confesses to being a part of the murder on a livestream of sorts. Him saying that he was dying of cancer as well and getting things off his chest.
