Norway has long been an Olympic games powerhouse in Winter sports. This year in Beijing they collected 16 gold, 8 silver, and 13 bronze medals. Five athletes led the way in the gold medal category, starting with  Johannes Thingnes Boe. He won four gold medals and 1 bronze medal all in the Biathlon.

Johannes Thingnes Bo is 28 years old and has competed in 3 winter Olympics. He’s won eight medals with three of them being gold which is extremely impressive. The crazy thing is, his younger brother Tarjei Bo and him won a medal in the same event making it the first time that’s ever happened. Thingnes Bo is a center piece on the Norwegian winter Olympics team and still has many years to go.

Joining Bo in the Biathlon event was Marte Olsbu Roiseland and she won three gold medals in this years winter Olympics. She also got two bronze medals adding to a total of five medals. This was only Roiseland’s second year competing for the Norwegian Olympic Team. With only being 31 years old, she’ll hopefully be able to compete in many more winter Olympics.

Therese Johaug is the next athlete we’ll be talking about and she is a four time Olympic gold medalist in cross-country skiing. Cross-country skiing is a super well known sport in American due to the fact that we run instead of ski most often. Johaug is very impressive though, she has won fourteen gold medal in the World Championships. She’s been competing in this event since 2007 in the Junior World Championships where she won gold three times. People don’t realize how difficult long distance skiing is and Johaug is just amazing at it.

Johannes Hosflot Klaebo also competes in cross-country skiing. He is only 25 years old and has already won seven Olympic medals with five of them being gold. What’s crazy During the 2019-2020 season, Klaebo became the most successful male sprinter in World Cup history when it comes to individual race victories, and set a new record for the most overall sprint titles, with four. He is currently the most successful male overall race winner in the competition’s history. He has put Norway in the skiing cross country powerhouse conversation.

The last athlete holds the record for most gold medals in the Nordic combined skiing. Jorgen Graabak has appeared in three Olympic games and has won four gold medals in the event. He has recently won tons of gold medals with two of them being in the past two world championships. The wild thing is, he also has five silver medals in both World’s and the Olympics.

Norway has become a winter sports powerhouse and lately have really made some major statements. They dominate in the biathlon and cross-country skiing. Three athletes won a combined fourteen medals in the biathlon and two athletes combined for 7 medals in cross-country skiing. This dominance goes all the way back to 1936 when Norwegian athletes won 41% of all events. The advancements Norway has made has shown greatly as they went from sixteen gold medals in 1924 to one hundred nine gold medals in this years Olympics. Everyone is very excited to see Norway compete in the 2026 winter Olympics as they’ve only gotten better year by year.
