So far, there have been four days of chaos in the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament. A total of 16 upsets, the highest being a 15 seed beating a 2 seed. In this tournament, there are four 1-16 seeds. After the round of 64 and 32, three 1 seeds, two 2 seeds, two 3 seeds, and three 4 seeds are left remaining.

March Madness isĀ  arguably one of the best timelines of sports. William Outten, LHS Senior and avid sports fan, said, “It’s just nice seeing the teams out there giving it their all and having fun. That’s the most important part.”

In the West Bracket, all of the top seeds remain in the sweet 16. Gonzaga, the number 1 seed, plays Arkansas, a 4 seed. Both Gonzaga and Arkansas have been in close games and pulled it out towards the end of the game. Gonzaga is an 8.5 point favorite in this game and is expected to easily win. Number 2 seed and 3 seed, Duke and Texas Tech, also play this weekend. In the round of 64, they blew out their opponent and won by 20. In the round of 32, they both played close games and won by single digits. Surprisingly, Texas Tech is a one point favorite even though they are the lower seed.

In the East Bracket, North Carolina, an 8 seed, and UCLA, a 4 seed, play a great matchup this weekend. UCLA is a 2 point favorite in this game. In the 1st round, they nearly got upset by 13 seed Akron. In the next round, they got their 1st round jitters out and won by 16 against 5 seed Saint Mary’s. North Carolina on the other hand, has been on a huge hot streak. They won their first round by 32 points against number 9 seed Marquette. They also beat top seed Baylor in overtime. At one point, they were up by 25 in the 2nd half but lost the lead for a little. North Carolina has been shooting lights out from the three point line at about 40%. Next, Purdue, a 3 seed, and Saint Peter’s, a 15 seed, play each other and play the winner of UCLA vs. North Carolina. Purdue opens up as a 12.5 point favorite.

Duke Basketball coach, Coach K, in his last season coaching of his career, is preparing for one of the biggest games of his coaching career.

In the South Bracket, number 1 seed Arizona and number 5 seed Houston play each other in the sweet 16. Arizona won their 1st game by 17 points, but won a nail-biter in overtime versus TCU to avoid the upset. Houston on the other hand, has been playing superb, they’ve won both their games by a combined score of 29 points. Arizona is expected as a 2 point favorite in this head to head matchup. Next up, Michigan plays Villanova. Both teams are playing incredibly well throughout this tournament. 11 seed Michigan has pulled off two upsets against 6 seed Colorado State and 3 seed Tennessee. Villanova, the 2 seed, has won both their games by a combined of 30 points. Villanova is a 5 point favorite in this game.

Lastly, in the Midwest Bracket 1 seed, Kansas, plays 4 seed, Providence. Kansas rolled past Texas Southern and beat Creighton by 7 in a close game. Providence has been playing really well as well.
