A parent’s worst nightmare came true this past October. In October three female students came forward about a teacher in their school and alleged misconduct towards them. From that point on teacher, Andre Scione was placed on administrative while an investigation was being conducted. Scione was a middle school teacher at Toano Middle School in the 2024-2025 school year. This is where the behavior began towards these students started. Scione then followed the students to Warhill high school where he got a job teaching for the 25-26 school year. He did not make it far into the school year before being placed on leave. As the investigation took months, this past week on February 23rd, Scione was charged with two counts of sexual assault and three counts of assault and battery of a minor. This case is still an ongoing investigation.

Scione has since been released on recognizance. Court paperwork shows he is ordered to avoid all contact with witnesses and refrain from contact with any non-family members under the age of 18.

This has had an outrage in our community; parents are disgusted at this situation. On the WJCC Public School Parents & Community Facebook page, we hear from parents and the community about how they are concerned that this was never communicated or acknowledged from the school district. They are also worried that other employees in the school may have known and didn’t report it even though they are mandated reporters. Parents are also concerned that there were rumors about this before he switched schools, but it was swept under the rug. Overall, this whole case has caused a lot of worries in our community and has also opened new doors about how parents feel about sending their kids to school.
