The Netflix original Bridgerton is now a four season show. The fourth season is being released in two parts, the first four episodes dropped January 29, 2026, and the second part is projected to come out February 26, 2026. This series is just 6 years old, with the first season piloting December 25th, 2020. The first season was a big hit and is still so far the most watched season with over 113 million views in just the first 91 days of it being out (How Bridgerton Officially Became Netflix’s Biggest Hit Ever). Fans are disappointed because the new season is not what the show used to be.
While the show is still about 8 siblings raised in luxury searching to find love, viewers feel as though the plot is lost. Some say it may be because there is a new main character, Sophie Baek. Sophie is Benedict Bridgerton’s love interest, which Benedict wasn’t always a big main character in past seasons, so with two new main leads, fans feel the show is different. Loss of characters is a factor towards this too; Jessica Madsen (Cressida Cowper), Harriet Cains (Philippa Featherington), Bessie Carter (Prudence Featherington), James Phoon (Harry Dunkworth), and Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne) are not returning to the show.
The show has already been renewed for a fifth and sixth season. The fourth season will be about following the love storyline of Benedict Bridgerton and his newfound lover Sophie Baek. It showcases a “Cinderella moment” as Sophie represents the “Lady in Silver”. Some feel that the romance story level is to cliche and follows a Cinderella story too closely. Awaiting the release for the rest of the episodes, fans hope to see a turning point since old characters were already taken away.
