Lafayette Spotlight: Ms. Cummings

Have you ever wondered what different teachers at our school are like personally? Did any of them go to this school or are they from a different state? Read more to find out more about our own lafayette alumni, Ms. Cummings.

Q- Where are you from originally?

A- I’m from Williamsburg. Graduated from LHS in 1994

Q- How long have you been working at LHS?

A- 9 years

Q- Where did you go to college?

A- Virginia Tech for undergrad, University of South Carolina for grad school

Q- What subject(s) do you teach?

A- I am the media assistant in the library

Q- Why did you become a teacher?

A- N/A – not technically a teacher. I got my library degree, because I love research and finding answers for people, especially when the questions/subjects are complicated.

Q- Cats or dogs?

A- Dogs

Q- If you could make a change at LHS, what would it be?

A- A little less noise would be nice – it’s so loud in the lower commons! A light at the entrance would be good, too. Trying to leave in the afternoons is a definite struggle, and takes way longer than it should.

Q- If you were stranded on a remote island, what three teachers at LHS would you take with you?

A- Mr. Beard, for his resourcefulness and knowledge of nature; Mrs. DiPaola, because she would make whatever food we scavenged taste good; Ms. Kalaskas, because of her good nature and ability to talk about anything.

Q- Do you have any advice for young people today?

A- Form your own opinion on things, rather than letting others influence you – don’t make up your mind on a topic until you’ve actually educated yourself on it using credible sources.

Q- What is your favorite thing about LHS?

A- How much we all love being part of the Ram Family!
