Meet Kyle Neve! Today on the 19th of April I had the opportunity to interview Mr. Kyle Neve who is our athletic director here at Lafayette.  It was great meeting him and awesome talking to him, without further ado here is some direct quotes from the interviw.

INTERVIEW

Q: “What do you do here at Lafayette?”

A: “I’m the athletic and activities director.”

Q: “Why did you come to Lafayette?”

A: ” Well funny story. I was at Bruton for 23 years and I’ve been good friends with Coach Lynn, the football coach. Yeah and he kept trying to get me to come over here after I resigned as head coach at Bruton. He tried to get me to come over here as an assistant coach but they didn’t have a teaching position. So when they finally did I came over and officially became the physical education teacher before I became the AD (Athletic Director) and basically it was because of our relationship.”

Q: ” And how many years have you been here?”

A: ” This is my 8th year here.”

Q: ” Did you go to college? and what did you major in”

A: ” Yeah. I went to Virginia Tech.  [I] majored in education with an emphasis on physical education and then in graduate school and I majored in athletic administration.”

Q: “Why did you decide to become and educator?”

A: ” Well you know I love my teaching… But I saw it as a way to be the teacher and a coach. Because if you’re teaching I mean you’re obviously teaching in a teaching setting but you’re also teaching when you’re coaching. So at the same time I did not want to go to the college level just as a coach, I wanted to contribute something, and teaching and coaching was a way to do that.”

Q: ” What do you love about your job?”

A: ” Number one thing I love about my job, is going to see the events. Seeing the athletes play for sporting events and you know, say theater doing the plays and one acts. I don’t like sitting at a computer for 6 hours a day. I love being outside. You know in this job you kinda lose contact with students, like this is a the first class I haven’t taught anyone. These seniors. I didn’t teach any. So now the freshman coming up, I see them playing sports but I don’t really have a relationship with them you know.  So going out there and seeing them play, that’s the number one things. That’s awesome.”

Q: ” What’s your ideal vacation?”

A: ” My ideal vacation is going to an island somewhere with a beach and just relaxing on the beach. And, basically just relaxing in the sun with nothing to do.”

Q: ” Are you a dog person or cat person?”

A: “Dog!”

Q: “Movies or TV?”

A: ”  I would say movies because I love movie popcorn.”
