Lafayette High School’s annual Junior and Senior prom occurred May 16th, 2026. The prom was held at the Colonial Williamsburg Lodge, and was decorated with a photo backdrop, round tables, and even had a DJ. The prom began at 7pm and lasted until about 10pm and during this time students flowed in and out the Lodge all night to dance, eat, and socialize. After a shy start on the dance floor, an exciting part was the fact that students were tearing it up on the dance floor by the end of the night!
The music is the most important part of the night; it sets the vibes for the students and enhances the atmosphere. At Lafayette prom, the music was somewhat controversial. The DJ played classic songs like “Party in the U.S.A” by Miley Cyrus, and “The Cupid Shuffle” by Cupid, these classic songs got the crowd going and dancing together, but the other music wasn’t what they asked for. Allegedly the Lafayette SCA made a playlist for prom with top hits they knew the students would enjoy hearing, but that playlist wasn’t played, so we asked students how they felt about it. “Wyatt, how did you feel about the music at prom?”(Reporter) “It was so disappointing, I wish the president of the junior class allowed the student body to pick the music themselves. And that’s on period.”(Wyatt Sylvester) “Teagan, was the music what you were hoping?”(Reporter) “No, the music was not fitting my standards. I wish they had played what the student body picked out.”(Tegan Fields) According to the students, looks like the rumors are true and the music was not as fun as they thought it would be.
One addition to this prom that was fun was complementary gift bags that were given to every guest who attended.

The bags were on theme and seemed to be a nice gift to end the night with. The bags included Hershey kisses, water, and other little treat, but the main gift was the mini masquerade masks. Since the theme of the prom was Masquerade Ball it made this addition very fun and memorable. Students who received a bag are now able to carry a reminder with them of one of their most famous nights they’ll experience in high school. Even just a mini black mask to represent the theme will allow memories of a lifetime to be remembered.

Bri, Lucas, Alex, Wilder, Andrew, Eden, Logan, Taylor Anne (Ms. Boyer)
The biggest event of the night was the prom court winner announcements. A classic prom event is always seeing the crowning of prom king and queen, so students were looking forward to it and were not disappointed. Around 9pm, students gathered around the dance floor to watch. Starting off with nominations, the kings were Logan Oleksy, Andrew Buckley, Lucas Chadwick, and Wilder Charles. For the queen, the nominations were Alex Parkes, Bri Sullivan, Eden Shoemaker, and Taylor Anne Mason. The contestants stood in line next to each other while Ms. Poole announced the winners. The LHS 2026 prom king and queen were… Andrew Buckley and Eden Shoemaker! Students seemed content with the winners, although most were shocked the couple Logan and Taylor Anne didn’t win since they are dating. Overall, prom had some surprises and took unexpected turns but turned out to be a fun ball for all.
