Bam Adebayo, a 28-year-old professional basketball player for the Miami Heat, and former Kentucky Wildcat Second Team All-SEC scored 83 points tonight against the Washington Wizards at the Kaseya Arena the other tonight, marking the second the greatest number of points scored in a single game. Bam played 42 minutes last night, shooting 20-43 (47%) from total field goals, 7-22 (32%) from three-point range, and a historic 36-43 (83%) from free-throws. This stat line breaks multiple records in the NBA, with obviously passing up Kobe’s historic 81-point game against the Raptors in 2006, the most free throws attempted and made with a game with 43, surpassing Dwight Howard’s record of 39 attempted free throws he set twice while on the Magic, and beating Adrian Dantley’s record of 28 made three throws set in 1984 (NBA Database). This feat has been formerly recognized as impossible, along with all of Dwight’s eight records set with NBA and club-based records.

He also broke Miami Heat history, by scoring the most points in a franchise game surpassing Lebron’s record of 61 in 2014 set against the Charlotte Bobcats, and scoring the most points in a single quarter with 31, again passing Lebron with his 25 points set in multiple games in 2014 as well. He broke 4 other Heat Franchise records, which are most field goal attempts and three-point attempts, most points in a half, and in a quarter, as well as another NBA history record with him being the first person to score over 70 points while shooting less than 50 percent from the field.

Along with his 83 points, Bam recorded nine rebounds, three assists, with two steals and two blocks. This performance in his 9th season of his career shows Bam’s class as a center, even though size wise he is seen as a bit undersized for his position at 6’9 but does have a standing reach of 9’0 and a wingspan of 7’3 which are looked at as above average measures for his position. This has also been an outstanding year for Bam, with him average 20 and 10 on relatively average shooting splits even though his average +/- is a record 5.8, a personal best for him. Although Adebayo has elite stats, his best quality is his elite rim protection and perimeter, interior, and post defense, making him the crux for Miami success this year with a 37-29 record, and a PCT of .561. Miami have gone 8-2 in their last ten games and are on a six-game win streak, with wins against the first seeded Pistons, 10th seeded Hornets, 13th seeded Nets, and 3rd seeded Rockets. Adebayo’s led Miami Heat team is currently sitting at the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, with them looking like a definite lock for the upcoming 25-26 NBA playoffs this year. Bam Adebayo has been called on of the best defensive wings of this generation, possibly surpassing former greats like Jordan and Lebron. Is this Bam Adebayo’s year to have a deep playoff run, or is this performance just a fluke against one of the worst teams in the league?
