Almost Maine is a tradition at Lafayette. The school puts on the show every four years so each theatre student will get an opportunity to be a part of this special production at least once. This show is perfect for Valentines Day because it is a collection of scenes about love. Each scene has two to three actors in the scene, and it teaches the audience a different lesson about love. There are eight distinct different scenes with a love lesson being taught, there is also a prologue and an epilogue. The play is written by John Cariani, and it is set in the small mythical town of Almost, Maine. It’s a tiny stretch of unmarked territory on the edge of Maine and Canada, so the locals refer to the town as “Almost” since it isn’t technically a town. The style of the play is broken up into vignettes and the lessons on love are exaggerated stories of the members of the town have heartwarming experiences as they deal with the challenges love brings to the table. Although the scenes are separate and clearly distinct, they all connect because the characters live in the same small town, so they all know each other, and they talk about characters in other scenes.
This winter show will be an amazing heartwarming play. It will bring joy and remind you the true meaning of love this Valentine’s Day.
