Valentine’s Day is a very divisive holiday. Many people have strong feelings of love or disgust for the holiday and debate its importance. People often only view the holiday as relating to romantic love, and thus feel that if they are single, the holiday is meaningless.
In my opinion, Valentine’s Day is a wonderful holiday. While I have never celebrated the holiday romantically, I have always observed the day as a way to celebrate all of the love to go around in the world. There is love to be found in every corner of the world. We can love our friends, family, and strangers, and compared to loving those people, romantic love is miniscule. Love comes in so many forms, and while romantic love seems to dominate Valentine’s Day, there is no reason that other types of love can’t also be celebrated on February 14th. In the busyness of life, Valentine’s Day teaches us to slow down and appreciate our loved ones, romantically or not!
Even if you are not celebrating romantic love with a fancy dinner, expensive floral arrangement, or gourmet chocolates. There are so many ways to have fun and Celebrate Valentine’s Day. A few include:
Staying In and Watching a Rom-Com:

An inexpensive way to celebrate the day is to throw on your favorite comfort movie or show. Pop some popcorn and cozy up on the couch for a movie marathon. My recommendations include “Set It Up,” “Ten Things I Hate About You” and “A Walk to Remember.”
Making Homemade Valentines:
If you love to DIY, try finding unique household items and decorating Valentines with them. Including a heartfelt note to give to a friend or family member will make their day. Who doesn’t love a card with macaroni pasta and glitter?

Girls Night Out:
If you want to celebrate female friendship ala Galentine’s Day, a fun night out with your girls might be just right. It can be as fancy or casual as you make it, You can get dressed up and go out to a nice dinner or grab milkshakes and burgers in your pajamas.
Be Kind to Others:
The best way to celebrate Valetine’s Day and do it most consistently is to be kind to everyone you meet. You never know what someone is going through, so it’s important to be loving to every person you meet. You never know how much a smile or compliment can impact someone’s day.
Regardless of how you feel about Valentine’s Day, there are many ways to celebrate love on February 14th and beyond!
