“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!” – “Pride and Prejudice” Jane Austen

Spring is in full swing with the weather getting warmer and the days getting longer. What could be better than spending that extra hour reading a new book? Here’s a list of new books coming out that I highly recommend.

As the spring weather is finally approaching, grab a blanket and a book to read outside.

The first one on our list is The Lifeguards by Amanda Eyre Ward. This mysterious, jaw dropping book is perfect for a warm spring night. The Lifeguards is about three mothers who would do anything to protect their sons. Their life seems perfect… until it’s not. These three mothers pride themselves on protecting their sons from the dangers of life and the world, but what happens when the sons decide they don’t want that protection anymore. One day, while the mothers are off at a happy hour, their sons, who are lifeguards for the summer, come home after a late-night dip in the local swimming hole. However, they come home with a secret. This secret could destroy the perfect world their mothers have meticulously created for them. What will the mothers do?

The Lifeguards releases on April 5, 2022 in hardcover and Kindle. You can pre-order this book on Amazon for $13.99 on Kindle and $25.99 for hardcover.

The next one on our list is Little Souls by Sandra Dallas. I have read Westering Women by Sandra Dallas and absolutely enjoyed her book, so personally, I’m pretty excited to read her new one. Sandra Dallas said in her newsletter, “I had no idea I was going to write about the Spanish flu. The idea came from something I read: The flu was so bad that bodies were left out on the street to be picked up by death wagons. What a great way to cover up a murder, I thought. That was the start of Little Souls.” As you have probably guessed by now, Little Souls is set in Colorado in 1918 during World War I and during the severe outbreak of the Spanish flu. The book is about two women who defend themselves and end up killing a man. They decide that due to the nature of the crime, it would be too difficult to prove their innocence. They leave the body in the street, hoping to disguise it as a Spanish flu victim. With the investigation looming and the epidemic getting worse, this book is about the powerful love of sisterhood. What will it take for both women to protect the ones they love?

One of my favorite activities to do in the spring is grab a book and head to the Chickahominy River.

Little Souls releases on April 26, 2022 in hardcover, Audiobook, Audio CD, and Kindle. You can pre-order this book on Amazon for $14.99 for Kindle and $27.99 for hardcover.

The last book on our list is Sea of Tranquility by award-winning and best-selling author of Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel, Emily St. John Mandel. Sea of Tranquility is set in two time periods, 1912 and two centuries after. in 1912, Eighteen year old Edwin St. Andrew travels across the Atlantic Ocean because he is banished from society. He is drawn into a mysterious forest where he hears the strange notes of a violin in a airship terminal. Two centuries later, Olive Llewellyn is on a book tour and in her book there is a passage that describes a forest where the notes of a violin an be heard on an airship terminal. A detective is hired to investigate a anomaly in the North American wilderness where he uncovers untold secrets.

Sea of Tranquility releases on April 5, 2022.
