This picture is a baby snail. Most people think snails are originally slugs. However, this is not true. Snails are born with shells from day one. This little guy is about two weeks old and has a full shell.

The picture shows the snail being suctioned to the skull decoration. Snails use this suction to climb but if you’ve ever grabbed a snail by its shell and lifted straight up to pull it off something it most likely caused mantle collapse- which is a slow painful, death to snails. So, if you don’t want to be a snail serial killer slide a snail to the side until they let go of the surface. Don’t pull upwards on their shell.

Well yes, but actually no. Most snails are not male or female. Most are somewhere in the middle or both. And most snails can have babies by themselves. They are hermaphroditic in technical terms but nonbinary works too, I guess.

the snail in the photo is five years old. While every breed of snail is different, most land snails like garden snails have long lives in captivity. In the wild however it bumps it down to around one year because of predators. But yes, there is most definitely a snail older than you right now if you are under 20.
