Happy Death Day 2U
Group of friends wake up one day to learn they are stuck in a parallel universe and cannot return until they beat their killer.
Tree Gelbman wakes up on her birthday to learn that she is stuck in a parallel universe. All her friends are acting weird and her boyfriend Carter is now with someone else. She relives the same day and must find her way home, but this time, the killer is after her and all her friends. There’s a twist: Tree discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.”The overall goal for this movie is to answer certain questions viewers have from the first, such as who is this baby-faced killer, why are these kids being killed, why are they reliving the same day in this parallel universe, and why is Tree Gelbman the one being targeted,” According to thisisinsider Jessica Rothe says. “This movie is great because it offers multiple genres within one movie”.
Jessica Rothe plays the main character, Tree Gelbman, who is stuck in this parallel universe for the second time. Israel Broussard plays Carter Davis, Tree’s boyfriend at the time. Phi Vu has the role of Ryan Phan, one of Tree’s best friends who is also being hunted. Ruby Modine plays Lori Spengler, according to hidden remote in an interview Ruby says her character “Has more of a friendly side than in the first movie.” Sura Sharma plays Samar Ghosh, a fellow nerd and good friend who is also trapped in reliving the same day over and over again.
“Happy Death Day 2U” is a horror/science fiction/comedy film, written and directed by Christopher Landon. It was produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions, which is known for producing low budget horror movies such as Insidious, Sinister, Halloween, and The Purge. According to cryptic rock Christopher Landon hopes to make a sequel connected to his first two movies. Producer Blum says, “If enough people see this one, we will make another.” The goal of this movie for Christopher Landon was to switch up genres between the first and second. Landon said, “The first movie she was trying to solve her own murder, this time I knew I had to do something new.”
Costumes for the most part stayed the same, considering this movie is a time looping nightmare. But the costume director Whitney Ann Adams had to figure out how to have the same outfits for the whole movie and still portray fear and horror.
The ratings on Happy Death Day 2U were average. They maintained a B on a scale from A-F and a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. This film finished 3.5$ million below expectations and fifth at the box office. Lafayette senior Lazuli Cristol rated this film a 6/10, saying, “It did not meet the expectations I had.” “The plot of this movie doesn’t make sense and does not correlate with the first.” says Cristol. Making this movie more of a one-time Horror film, it lacks the financial stability to become a series. I don’t see this movie ever having a sequel or furthering itself unless a big change is made.
