Gift-giving at Christmas
Everybody loves the holiday shopping so that’s why we enjoy gift giving so much.
According to Christian beliefs, Christmas itself is really about a big present that God gave the world about 2000 years ago: Jesus. One of the most famous Bible verses, John 3:16, says: “God loved the world so much, that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in him may not be lost but have eternal life.” One of the main reasons we give and receive presents at Christmas, is to remind us of the presents given to Jesus by the 12 Wise Men.
For Christians, December 25th is a time of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God. Even though it is not the exact birth date of Jesus, it is the date chosen to celebrate the birth. The traditions associated with this festive time often bring joy and a sense of belonging, creating heartwarming memories for children and adults for years to come.
One such tradition is Christmas shopping. People of America look forward to giving and receiving gifts wrapped in bright and glittery paper and ribbon. There’s something about the way the Christmas tree looks when beneath its branches lies a mountain of shiny gifts of all sizes. It’s exciting for both children and grown-ups. Some people love Christmas shopping, others hate it, but every year Americans spend millions of dollars on the most famous shopping day of the year, Black Friday. The day after Thanksgiving marks the unofficial opening of the Christmas shopping season. Retailers offer outrageous sales on their products to attract customers to their stores. Some stores even open their doors as early as 2 a.m. to a long line of customers who have held their spot in line all night long.
There are all different types of holiday traditions around the world, but gift giving is one of the most fun-filling of them all.
