Unranked Iowa Hawkeyes slaughter #6 Ohio State Buckeyes
Waking up on the morning of November 4, 2017 as an Ohio state football fan was a great feeling. The Ohio State Buckeyes traveled to Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City to face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes. This game was supposed to be an easy win for the Buckeyes, who were ranked 6th at the time, with a 7-1 record while the Hawkeyes were unranked with a 5-3 record. In this game, however, the Hawkeyes proved that rankings are just a number.
The first play of the game was a 30 yard interception by Amani Hooker for a touchdown. At the end of the first quarter the score was tied 10-10. The smack down started in the second quarter when Iowa’s Noah Fant received a 25 yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 24-17.
With thirty seconds left in the third quarter, Iowa scored another touchdown to make the score 31-17.
After halftime Iowa came out to score their 5th touchdown of the night bringing the score to 38-17. The fourth quarter did not end well for the Buckeyes as they scored one touchdown to the Hawkeyes’ two. Miguel Recinos then kicked a 30 yard field goal. The Hawkeyes destroyed Ohio State with a final score of 55-24.
No one could keep the fans of Iowa off their field that night. It was an amazing sight to see, as all of the Iowa fans rushed down from their seats and onto the football field to celebrate their big win over a tough team.
Ohio State fans aren’t be too happy about the outcome of the game, but they do have to respect the story of the underdog team. Going into week 12 of College Football, Ohio State is ranked 8th with a record of 8-2 and Iowa is unranked with a record of 6-4. It will be interesting to see how Ohio states loss to Iowa effects them in the playoffs, we will just have to wait and see.
