Thanksgiving Traditions
Whether it is a must-have dish or a traditional football game, most people have their beloved traditions this time of year,
From Thanksgiving football to Grandma’s homemade sweet potato pie, everyone has a favorite Thanksgiving tradition. Where did it all start?
Thanksgiving began in 1621 when the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an Autumn feast. Since then, many special traditions have developed such as the wishbone, NFL football, the turkey pardon, and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. But besides the national traditions, what well loved rituals do people observe?
I decided to poll 50 people to get an idea of Lafayette’s favorite traditions. 85% of students said they enjoyed watching NFL football with their family and friends on Thanksgiving day. 10% of students agreed that each year they look forward to Black Friday shopping, and the remaining 5% enjoy a special homemade food, such as Sweet Potato pie, baked Mac n Cheese, Pecan pie, corn casserole, and Apple Pie salsa.
Whatever your time honored, well loved rituals might be, have a lovely Thanksgiving!
