Michel was born right here in Williamsburg, VA in August of 2008. By the time he entered middle school, he knew that Journalism was what he wanted to do in life. Michel always had a soft spot for talking about happenings in sports, and writing about news and his opinions in sports would be the perfect way to allow him to do this. So when he started his sophomore year at Lafayette High School, and saw that Journalism was an option for an elective, he’s never signed up for a class faster.
Michel’s journalism career started with an (albeit very poor) article about the NHL season. While not his best work, it was also his first ever article, and the start of his love for writing articles. He then followed that up with his first news article, about a student who was on trial for attacking his teacher. We asked Michel what he considered to be his favorite article he’s written for the ledger. “My favorite article I’ve written was probably my 2093 Album Review. Not only was it my favorite album that released in 2024, it was also my favorite rap album ever.”
One thing has always stood in the way of Michel’s career, though. When he’s not already interested in the topic (take some of his non sports or music articles for example,) his creativity tends to stutter. We asked his thoughts on this trend we noticed; “If I don’t really know a topic well, I always have had a tough time at actually starting. Even when I can start, it’s tough to continue when I can’t think of anything to add.”
Michel told us about some of the articles he wanted to write, but never got around to writing them whether it’s because he couldn’t because his class wasn’t writing articles that week, or he was simply too lazy to actually write it. “When I went up to Pittsburgh to watch my Steelers battle the Browns, I was planning on writing two articles on it. One about the actual game, and one about Acrisure Stadium and their concessions, parking, layout, views, etc. Sadly, though, when I got back from my vacation, we had to write a music article about our favorite album. I would’ve wrote about my favorite album, Twin Fantasy (Face to Face) by Car Seat Headrest, but I was gone forĀ a week, and therefore didn’t have the time to write it.”
One thing we wanted to ask Michel about was music. According to him he has “a very poor music taste,” so we wanted to ask him about his favorite albums and artists. “I’ve already stated my favorite album of all time, but my top 4 would probably be: the aforementioned Twin Fantasy (Face to Face), Currents by Tame Impala, How to Leave Town by Car Seat Headrest, and 2093 by Yeat.”
It really was a pleasure to talk to one of the editors and reporters for the Lafayette Ledger, and hope him success in his college and future endeavors.
