Daniel Howard is a hard-working high school scholar. He is a pupil at Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Virginia. He is a varsity rower at Williamsburg Boat Club. Daniel also likes to do other things, such as bouldering, hiking, skiing, and scuba diving. Daniel also loves music. Daniel was born on Langley Air Force Base in Virginia on December 25th, 2008. Daniel went to Walsingham Academy until 5th grade, and Berkeley Middle School in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Daniel participated in multiple sports while growing up. He played soccer, baseball, gymnastics, and swam. Daniel finally tried rowing because his older brother rowed.
WBC is a rowing team that is based out of Chickahominy Riverside Park. WBC shares a boat house with The College of William and Mary. Rowing stuck with Daniel as soon as he tried it. Daniel rowed all through middle school and in his freshman year, he finally got on a varsity boat. Daniel’s team had many different coaches, and the team suffered a lot because of it. The old head coach, Tom, had to leave the team to help U.S. Rowing with safety management. The team then got a new coach named Rebecca, that put William and Mary ahead of WBC. She was also very unfair to the girl’s team. In the 2024 spring season, Daniel rowed in the U19 2k Race. In his sophomore year, he was on the Varsity Quad and tied for 3rds at states in the U19 race. Daniel is currently the fastest lightweight on the team. Daniel’s friend, Zach, said “I can see him rowing in college”. Daniel has been to the Naval Rowing Academy with his teammates. Daniel is currently looking forward to the spring season of 2025.
Daniel has been traveling since he was little. He has traveled to Canada, Alaska, the Lower 48 States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Mexico, Iceland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. His first major trip was to Alaska for a wedding. He fell in love with the outdoors and camping. He went to Iceland with his father and brother. He loved Iceland because of the views and landscape. He later joined a Boy Scout troop to camp more and now he is almost an Eagle Scout. He went to the U.S. Virgin Islands on a scout trip and sailed. In the summer of 2025, Daniel will be backpacking and hiking in New Mexico.
Daniel hopes to go to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He wants to get his private pilot’s license and his commercial pilot license. Daniel wants to fly for United Airlines and is interested in being a pilot because of the views and the freedom of flying. Cooper J. Long, a friend of Daniel said, “I can envision Daniel being a great pilot for any company”.
Daniel also loves music, some of his favorite bands are Alice in Chains, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, and Deftones. Daniel wants to learn electric guitar as well as learn more acoustic guitar. Daniel is planning on going to an Alice in Chains concert this spring.
