In October, our very own Lafayette Ledger member, Emma Duncan, decided to take on the feat of starting a new club. Emma saw the lack of reading in the Lafayette community and felt pressure to act on it. By collaborating with Taylor Anne Mason (a fellow junior), the two created a new book club titled: Rams Read. The club is comprised of roughly forty members who read books monthly and meet to discuss their contents. It may be useful for building social skills and literary experience. Rams Read has proven by many to be worth the experience!
The process of starting the club turned out to be relatively simple. First, the pair concluded Mr., Ebersole- their AP English Language teacher was the best choice for a sponsor. He was relatively low-demanding and was excited to take part in an innovative club. The club was then taken to Mrs. Denny and given approval. Emma was faced with only one difficult task- convincing Mr. Rice that Lafayette needed a book club. After a nerve-racking conversation, Mr. Rice told Emma she had the right to go ahead and hold the first meeting. Hooray!

Admittedly, Rams Read has been only mildly successful. With a whopping four books read, consistent members keep coming back to learn, speak to others who have a passion for literature, and socialize with likeminded students. Emma’s personal favorite read was The Devil in the White City. Saying,” It will easily be the best book the club will read, feel free to read it and prove me wrong.” Other books the club has read have been Anxious People, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, and the previously mentioned novel.
The Rams Read choice for February is Of Mice and Men. A classic. This short, and sweet novel was chosen by Taylor Anne. To join Rams Read, scan the QR code for the GroupMe, speak to club president Emma Duncan, or show up to the meeting on the 26th and be prepared to discuss the book!
Emma and Taylor Anne hope to see you at the next meeting.
