The Christpoher Newport University club ice hockey team took on William and Mary making a close game, both teams worked extremely hard to get the win, Unfortunately for CNU fans, William & Mary skated off with the win. Right at the puck drop it became obvious that it was going to be a very physical game. There were many penalties called on both teams, number 25 Jack Frimet from William and Mary even got ejected for fighting, and later on, number 73 Griffen Camacho from CNU was ejected as well. Even though some of the penalties were called on CNU, the fighting and trash talk can be very entertaining., and hockey fans love it. There were many shots on goal from both teams, however both came short of getting the puck into the net, with the first period ending scoreless.
The second period started very strong, with William and Mary scoring in the 5 minutes of the whistle blowing. There were lots of penalties for the Tribe in the second quarter, CNU tried to take advantage of powerplays, however even with the man up advantage, CNU wasn’t able to score a goal. When the second period ended, the Tribe was up 2-0.

Finally, in the third period, the Captains started to work a little harder towards the win and they ended up scoring 2 goals. However, the Tribe was able to out skate them, with the game ending in a 5-2 William and Mary win. Though the Tribe won, CNU was working extremely hard to make up for being down 2 players this game; one to injury and one to getting ejected. This could have been the Captain’s missing element preventing them from winning this game.
I was rooting for CNU to win the game, they have worked very hard to make it a great season for fans and players alike. Watching the game from the CNU bench, I was able to experience the whole team motivating each other to get the win. I could feel their passion for the game and their team , as they were using strong language and yelling. The bench is an interesting place to be during a hockey game. Even though CNU lost this game it was a fun to experience the rivalry that they have with William and Mary. Better luck next time!
