The IED In Colonial Williamsburg
Williamsburg Rocked as IED Attack Stuns Locals
At 5p.m. Thursday, outside Berret’s Seafood Restaurant, an explosion rocked the ground of Confusion Corner. This domestic terrorism case happened when a bomb, hidden inside a vehicle, was detonated, engulfing the area in flames. The FBI has led an investigation into this incident and has ruled that the culprit, Stephen Powers, acted alone in this event.
Stephen Powers worked as a private contractor and was hired by Colonial Williamsburg until late September. It was thought that this attack was targeted at his old employers, but until those details surface, it can’t be taken as fact. The attack occurred near “College Corner” in Colonial Williamsburg, one of the busiest roads in the area with little room for pedestrians. Powers was apprehended on October 19th at his home, and was charged with committing an act of terrorism and possession/use of an explosive device.
His sentences combine to equal at least 20 years behind bars, and the pre-meditated planning of the target location might add to that sentence. The whole Colonial Williamsburg community has united in promoting safety, and business owners have felt the effects in the aftermath of this incident.
