The 2024-25 basketball season for Lafayette High School is just around the corner, and excitement is in the air! With the new talent and seasoned players returning, the team is gearing up for what promises to be an exhilarating season. Fans, students, and the entire community are eagerly awaiting the first tip-off, ready to support their team through every game.
LHS has a rich history of basketball success, and this year looks to be no different. The team has been training hard during the off-season, focusing on improving their skills, teamwork, and strategy. Coach Piggot, known for his dedication and tactical acumen, has been working tirelessly with the players to ensure they are in peak condition. He believes that the combination of experienced seniors and enthusiastic underclassmen will create a dynamic and formidable team.
The schedule for the upcoming season is packed with challenging matchups, including rival games that always draw large crowds. The team’s first game is set for December 6th against New Kent High School, a game that will undoubtedly set the tone for the rest of the season. The players are ready to showcase their hard work and determination, aiming for a strong start and a successful run.
Beyond the basketball court, the LHS community is also preparing to rally behind their team. The cheerleaders, pep club, and student section. are all gearing up to provide unwavering support, creating an electric atmosphere at every home game. The sense of unity and school spirit is palpable, as everyone comes together to cheer for their team.
In addition to the players’ effort, the coaching staff has been instrumental in developing innovative strategies and plays. Assistant Coach Harper has introduced new defensive drills that have already shown promising results in the scrimmage. The team’s focus on both offense and defense ensures a well-rounded approach that can adapt to various opponents’ tactics.
The LHS basketball program has also been emphasizing the importance of academics and personal growth. The student-athletes are encouraged to excel not only on the court but also in their studies and community involvement. This holistic approach helps in building character and preparing them for future endeavors, whether in sports or other fields.
I’ve interviewed 2 boy players who have played for LHS before and 1 new addition to the team; Wayne Santos, Zyhir Burton, and Kordell London, asking them three questions about basketball. Are they ready for the fast approaching season? What makes them enjoy basketball? And why basketball over any other sport? All answered that they are ready and excited for the 24′-25′ season. They said playing with the others and competing makes them enjoy the sport. They chose basketball over any other sport mainly because they’ve been playing their whole lives so they just stuck with it. Specifically Kordell London chose to play both football this year because he wanted to try something new.
So we’re all ready for the 2024-2025 LHS boys basketball season, and the anticipation is building. With a blend of experienced leaders and promising young talent, the team is poised for a memorable season. Fans can look forward to a series of exciting games, as the LHS basketball team strives to make their mark and bring pride to the school and community.
