Lafayette fans went home pleased Friday night as they saw their Rams take home the dub against Petersburg. The Rams remain undefeated, record (11-0). It was the first round of Varsity class 3 football Playoffs, and the Rams weren’t taking it lightly. It was windy, the air was crisp, and for the first time, the game had this autumn vibe to it. The theme was camo, and the fans didn’t fail to partake as they rocked their green and black. I asked one fan at the game her opinion on the theme, and she stated, ” I love the theme today it gives were ready for war”. The Rams did not disappoint in entertaining us Friday as it was a high scoring game for us.
In the first quarter, Tristin Harris had a passing touchdown, but Lafayette failed to convert the extra point. Later in the quarter our Running back Brayden Smalls had a huge rushing touchdown for 94- yards. Baum Hogge rushed for the 2-point conversion putting Lafayette 14-0 at the end of first. Six minutes into the first Baum Hogge throws a 40- yard dot to Naye’Ron Hudson. This was the most elusive catch I have ever seen as a reporter. Aiden Gerda for the extra point, kick was phenomenal and converted making Lafayette (21-0) at the half. Naye’Ron was having him an awesome game defensively as well with 5 tackles and we got back for third quarter he had a 80-yard kick return for a TD. The next TD was insane as a person on the sideline as the play before the touchdown our wide receiver Jael Love was
pushed by 3 defenders talking trash after a play. The next play Baum Hogge threw a 60-yard pass to Jael Love for a touchdown. Brayden Smalls has another long yardage run putting us @ Petersburg 15. Which was followed by a run and score by Breon Stokes. At the end of the third it was (42-6), and it will remain that way for the rest of the game.
Although our offense went off our defense played an amazing game. Daniel Jackson with a fumble recovery, Obrian Canady had 8 tackles, #21 with a interception. If I could personally name the defensive and offensive player of the game, I would go with #21 for defense and Naye’Ron Hudson for offense. See you next Friday as we face Colonial Height home at Regionals Semifinals.
