Have you ever seen our School Resource Officer (SRO) walking around the school and wondered, “I wonder who he is”, well hopefully I can answer some of those questions for you today! I had a chance to sit down with our new SRO Officer Fitzsimmons and ask him a few questions, and he’s more personable than most would believe. While this may be his first year at Lafayette, Officer Fitz, as many call him, is no stranger to the Police Force, as he is going into his 10th year as an officer.
Having spent time in Portsmouth, as well as starting off his career in law enforcement as a Corrections officer, he has been in various environments and situations. When I asked what he plans on doing once his cycle at Lafayette is over, he said he wished to become a community officer to help prevent issues before they even begin. Officer Fitz also stated he is aware that officer McLaughlin’s leaving big shoes to fill, he is not here to replace Officer Dre, he is here to be the first officer Fitz.
I personally believe he is a good man and everyone should take a moment to try and speak with him, as well as get to know him. Just go up to him and say “hi”, I promise you’ll be glad you did!
