In my Staff Spotlight, I’ll asked one of my favorite teachers, Coach Kowalski. She is the marketing teacher and teaches the Sports & Entertainment Marketing, and Fashion Marketing classes. The following is the conversation I had with her.
Me: “Where are you from originally?”
K: “I was born in yorktown”
Me: “How long have you been teaching, and how long have you been teaching at LHS?”
K: “This is my first year at LHS and I’ve been teaching for 3 years as a regular teacher and I was a paraeducator for 2 years.”
Me: “Where did you go to college?”
K: “I got my undergrad at VCU, and my masters from the University of Phoenix.”
Me: “Why did you become a teacher?”
K: “Because I really like teaching”
Me: “What do you love about your job?”
K: “I love the relationship with the students.”
Me: “What is your ideal vacation?”
K: “Somewhere by a pool”
Me: “If you could live anywhere, where would it be?”
K: “Maine.”
Me: “Maine? Really?”
K: “Yes, Maine.”
Me: “If you could meet anyone from anytime in the past, who would it be?”
K: “Probably, Al Capone.”
Me: “If you could choose any superpower, what would it be, and why?”
K: “I want to be able to van- like… go from one place to the other. Like if I have a 20 minute lunch break I want to be able to go to say Hawaii for the 20 minutes.”
Me: “So… teleportation?”
K: “Yeah.”
Me: “5 years from now, do you still see yourself at Lafayette High?”
K: “I hope so.”
Me: “If you could make one change to Lafayette, what would it be?”
K: “I would really like to see like… more consistency with ike departments and what people are teaching, so for example you have one person teaching econ, one teacher focused on marketing, and so its just one person being consistent so the material is always the same.”
Me: “What’s your favorite TV Show of all time?”
K: “Law & Order.”
Me: “If you were stranded on a remote desert island, which 3 other Lafayette teachers would you have with you?”
K: “Mr. Greene, but he’s not a teacher, hes an Administrator.”
Me: “Still counts.”
K: “Mr. Rice, and Coach T.”
Me: “What are your hobbies?”
K: “I like to go bowling, and I coach travel volleyball.”
Me: “Final question; what advice would you give young people today?”
K: “Try to find ways of line, constantly being creative, and if you have those ideas like… go for it and do it.”
