Lafayette Spotlight: Mr Hargis

Q-Where are you from originally?
A-I grew up in nearby Gloucester County. My childhood home was in Gloucester Point, on the York River. My father was the Director of VIMS and the Dean for the School of Marine Science via the College of William & Mary.
Q-Where did you go to college?
A-Have my BS from ODU and my MA from Va Tech.
Q-Why did you become a teacher?
A-I always had a passion for music and wanted to share that with future young people.
Q-What subject(s) do you teach?
A-Advanced Band, Honors Band, Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble.
Q-How long have you been teaching, and how long at LHS?
A-I am finishing my 38th year in teaching. This is my 12th year at LHS.
Q-What are your hobbies?
A-Sailing, wood projects, anything on or near the water.
Q-What’s your favorite joke?
A-How about “quote”…………….Don’t count the days……………..make the days count!
Q-Is teaching your dream job?
A-It was my dream to be a successful HS Band Director. I feel I have been able to meet those goals, and I’m still learning.
