       Interview

Q– What do you do/teach here?

A– I teach AP US History, World History I, and Law & Debate.

Q– Why did you come to LHS and how many years have you been here?

A– I came to Lafayette after stepping away from teaching for a few years.  I realized how much I missed being with students and sharing my love of history, so I jumped at the chance of being a part of the Ram Family when the opportunity arose. I started in the fall of 2020 during COVID.

Q– What college did you go to?

A– My undergrad work was Christopher Newport University…although it was Christopher Newport College then!  I earned my MEd a few years ago.

Q– Why did you decide to teach?

A– I loved being in school and participating in the dynamics of an active and engaging classroom; to have the opportunity to share that love and encourage others to continue to learn is exciting.  I think it’s also in my DNA as both of my parents were instructors.

Q– What do you love about your job?

A– Engaging with students and being a part of a great Social Studies team.

Q– Do you have any advice for young people today?

A– “Just keep swimming!”  Don’t give up, don’t stop believing…just keep doing your best to move forward.

Q– If you could meet anyone from any time in the past, who would you choose and why?

A– As a US History teacher, I would love to have a chance to meet up with George Washington; I would like to hear from him how he moved from a loyal British military officer to an integral leader of the Revolution to the first leader of a new nation.

Q– What are your hobbies?

A– I still dabble in theater (I owned a local theater company, Backstage, for several years before the pandemic) and planning (and going on) trips to Walt Disney World.  Solo, family, and group trips…it is all great fun and magical!
