Lafayette Spotlight: Erica Vandeveer
Let me introduce you to Erica (Gibson) Vandeveer! She was such a pleasure to meet and interview.
Meet Erica Vandeveer! She is a Student Counselor for Lafayette, and she loves doing her job. I had so much fun interviewing her. She was and is a friendly person with a bright smile. Did you know she is a new counselor at Lafayette High School?
INTERVIEW
Q–How long have you been a counselor at LHS?
A– This is my first year at LHS.
Q– Why did you become a school counselor?
A–I’ve always liked working with kids and originally wanted to be a teacher. I found a slightly different role in School Counseling and felt at home doing this work. I enjoy that every day is different, and it is never boring.
Q– What did you do before coming to LHS?
A– I worked at a Primary School as a Pre-K thru 2nd Grade school counselor.
Q– Where did you go to college?
A– Virginia Tech!
Q– Where are you from originally?
A– I’m from Smithfield, VA. About an hour away from here.
Q– What is your ideal vacation?
A– Chartering a sailboat in the BVI’s
Q– If you got superpowers by being bitten by an animal, which animal would it be and why?
A– A lizard; I can’t explain why honestly.
Q– If you could make one change to LHS, what would it be?
A– I would love if there was more natural light in the building (specifically my office).
Q– Do you prefer movies or TV?
A– I like TV better because it’s less of a commitment.
Q– What are your hobbies?
A– Being outside, sailing and cooking.
