A Tropical Nightmare
Man begins vacation in bliss and ends fighting for his life.
On August 28, 2016 Mike Droter’s life would change forever. Mike and his girlfriend Jordan Lovas were on a dream vacation to Hawaii to celebrate Jordan’s birthday. On their beautiful trip Mike got down on one knee and proposed to Jordan on the beach. That night they went to sleep over-joyed about the rest of their lives together. Little did they know that their lives would take an unexpected turn.
Jordan was packing their bags to leave when she was interrupted by multiple loud screams on the beach. She looked down from her balcony to see several people pulling what seemed like the lifeless body of Mike Droter. Mike was flipped on his back by a wave that caused him to hit his head on the ocean floor.
When they arrived at the hospital, Mike was diagnosed with a fractured C1 Vertebrae, one of the worst spinal injuries there is. The doctors at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu stated that Droter would never be able to eat, talk, walk or have any other motor functions for the rest of his life.
Despite his horrific injuries two months after the injury he shocked doctors when he was able to say two words and drink water on his own. The doctors speculated that this was the best that Droter was going to be able to do. He is very determined to gain as much function as he can. Along with his determination he is blessed to have endless support from his fiancé and family. The latest we have on his recovery is that he has regained feeling in the left side of his body, and he is able to move his triceps, kick his leg down and do assisted squats, pull downs, stand ups.
Everyone who knows about the situation, whether you know him personally or just read the article wishes Mike a continued recovery and joy.
