Maverick Wins A Grammy!
Popular Christian Music Group, Maverick City Music, won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
Maverick City Music celebrated their Grammy award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album last Sunday. The group won the award for their 2021 album, Old Church Basement. The group was also nominated for all 4 categories in Christian and gospel music genres. “Blessed is an understatement for how we feel about all #Jireh is doing in this moment — we’re making history,” they said before the Grammy Performance, according to an article on the on The Christian Post website. “We truly feel that we have been placed here for such a time as this and are excited to continue to share this journey with you all!” As Maverick City kicked off in 2018, their following has grown into a mass number of millions of listeners worldwide. Members like Brandon Lake, Naomi Rain, Chandler Moore have sung hit after hit in the Christian contemporary music category. They performed their number 1 hit, “Jireh”, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. They have wrote a number of songs that many churches still perform every Sunday.
My fellow church member, Asa Fehrenbach, stated this when asked about the impact Maverick City had on him and our church. “Maverick City Music has single handedly helped transform our church congregation and help turn their hearts to Jesus in worship every single Sunday. Other songs that are not on the album, are even sung with the bass and drums that turn the atmosphere into a place of vulnerability and praise. Songs like Firm Foundation and Wait On You, are played everywhere from the church, to the sedan driving to school in the morning. They tied with music star Beyonce for the most wins in the categories.
The music group also collaborated with gospel star Kirk Franklin. Their alum, Kingdom Book One was an album that had many gospel related songs and raps, inviting a different vibe to their music and joining audiences together. A popular song, Bless Me, also been on the top of music charts for a while, featuring Kirk Franklin and Chandler Moore. Last March, the group announced they were going on tour with well-known artist. They hit cities like New Orleans, Toronto, and Greensville in a national tour. The tour went off with a bang and ended with millions of people loving the tour. Even through all the awards, Maverick City went to the Grammys without one of the people who made it possible, Donte Bowe. The man who sang some of their hit songs such as, I Thank God, and Wait On You was dissociated from the group after allegedly posting a snapchat video with him and his friend dancing to explicit music and drinking alcohol. They stated in an Instagram post, “We are in full support of Dante as he continues his journey towards health and happiness, Our ethos has always and will always be centered on family. We are all imperfect people who need a perfect Savior. Dante is apart of our family and will always be”. So even as Maverick City lost a member, their success is incalculable as they continue to strive to be a Jesus and life giving music group that imparts millions of people to praise Jesus every day.
