Terrorist Attack in London, England
With terrorism spreading and groups like ISIS becoming more powerful, the rest of the world has been on high alert for any terrorist related violence. Recently terrorist have been targeting Europe, but there have still been attacks elsewhere around the globe. The most recent attack was in London, England on March 22nd 2017. This attack was the first terrorist attack London has had since 2005, and it leaves the government and people in fear of what might happen next.
The attack began around two-forty in the afternoon, as the attacker drove his car on to Westminster Bridge, and only lasted a minute and twenty-two seconds. He drove his car at a very high speed into people on the bridge, targeting civilians. Three people died because of the attack on the bridge, and many more were injured. The attacker had his sights set on parliament, so he aimed his van to collide with the gates of parliament, crashing. He got out and approached parliament, in an attempt to enter. He then stabbed a police officer to death and was shot by police until he was dead. Parliament was then put on lock down because of fear of further conflict.
The attack was orchestrated by the Khalid Masood, age 52. His attack injured at least fifty people and resulted in five deaths, including his own. Masood acted alone, and the police believe it is Islamic-related terrorism. ISIS took responsibility for the attack, saying Masood was associated with them, but it is still unsure that they were actually involved. Police are still investigating the incident and trying to further clarify the reasoning behind what occurred.
Countries around the world are trying to help and support the UK in the best ways they can. The police and the government are doing whatever they can to find more information on the attack, and to prevent future incidents.
