Wisconsin Volleyball Team Controversy
Wisconsin’s Volleyball Team’s Explicit Images Leaked.
The recent leaks of the current BIG 10 volleyball champions of Wisconsin have taken the sports world by storm. On the week of October 20, 2022 twitter users were shocked to see nude and personal photos posted containing members of the University of Wisconsin’s volleyball team. These intimate images and videos are confirmed to have been taken in the locker room and hotel, where the team was staying.
The Wisconsin-Madison Police department are further investigating the situation and have stated to the press they have not dealt with a case quite like this in a while. The police department’s Executive Director of Communications, Marc Lovicott, said in a statement to the Daily Mail that the Wisconsin police are dealing with a “unique case” for a number of reasons and that the nude photos and videos came from an unnamed player’s phone. “This is a unique case because of the high profile of the girls involved and our detectives are working on this case as a priority,” Lovicott said in the statement. “Our department has worked on cases like this before but many of them involve people threatening to put intimate photos online – blackmail. Nothing like that is suspected in this case and again, this case is unique because of the high profile of the players.” Police said the player — whose phone was responsible for 40 leaked photos and video — is not under suspicion and does not know how the photos became published online. Police also are investigating the fact that one of the players phones could have possibly been hacked stating; “We’re looking into what happened and who may have shared these photos,” Lovicott said in his press conference, as reported by the Daily Mail. “None of the players are being investigated and we are looking at the possibility that one of their phones was hacked.”
In most states, including Wisconsin, it is illegal to post or share nude or explicit photos or videos without permission. Numerous sources confirm such as The Daily Mail, The Wisconsin-Madison Police Department, and the UWPD that the information was purposely leaked to cause them issues. Due to the fact that these photographs are being automatically removed in accordance with the graphic content guideline, millions of individuals are still having trouble finding them online. The photographs and videos were taken in December 2021, not recently. It was only after the team’s substantial national victory that they were leaked.
The police are still investigating the situation and are keeping the public updated. Since the incident, the University of Wisconsin has fully supported their players in this controversial time for them. After all, they are just young girls trying to go through college and play the sport they love at the same time. As of now, The University of Wisconsin has not issued a statement regarding the situation, but they have not terminated any players off the team. In fact, the Wisconsin volleyball team have had record attendance since the incident and continue to do well in their season.
