Turks and Caicos
A Beautiful Vacation Spot
Turks and Caicos are a group of islands that are considered to be a British Overseas territory consisting of larger and smaller islands. There are two groups of tropical islands in the Lucayan Archipelago of the Atlantic Ocean and northern west indies. Turks and Caicos is primarily known for tourism and as an offshore financial center. An Offshore financial center is basically just a jurisdiction that provides corporate and financial services to non-resident companies on a scale that is not in proportion to in contrast to a country’s economy. As of 2012 the residential population stood at a whopping 31,458, which to put that into perspective the total population of James city county in Virginia is 76,397.
With that being said Turks and Caicos is obviously not known for its ginormous population, more so its beauty for tourism. Turks and Caicos is known to have crystal clear bright blue water with amazing beaches, beaches are lined with palm trees and resorts with beautiful pools. Turks and Caicos food culture is based around seafood, which is makes sense considering they are an island in the Atlantic Ocean. Turks and Caicos’ national dish is Cracked Conch, it would be a crime to not try it when you go. Cracked Conch is basically just a deep-fried fish that is similar to fried calamari, but much more flavorful. Normally this dish is served with fries, rice and beans, or coleslaw. To put it into simple terms Cracked Conch is Turks and Caicos version of America’s fish and chips. Turks and Caicos is a beautiful place and provides the tourist with tasty food, but those tourists need somewhere to stay. The shore club Turks and Caicos is a very highly rated resort and is known for its breath-taking views, 4 swimming pools, and 5 restaurants/bars.
That is just one of countless highly rated resorts that are in Turks and Caicos. To move past the basic facts of Turks and Caicos here are some fun facts about the islands. Did you know that Turks and Caicos is home to around 40 islands and has a total land area of 950 square miles? The crazy thing is only 8 of the islands are inhabited, this means there are many different islands to choose from when going for a vacation! Another fun fact about the islands is that there are Dozens upon dozens of underwater cave systems in the Turks and Caicos Islands. If you ever have the chance to visit and are interested in underwater cave diving then be sure to check out the Cottage bond on North Caicos and The Boiling Hole on South Caicos, unfortunately most of the other cave systems are relatively unrecognized and unexplored. In all, Turks and Caicos is a beautiful place and is well worth a visit.
