VA Governor Election
Glen Younkin and Terry McAuliffe are the two candidates running for the 2021 governor election.
On November 3rd 2021, Virginians will go to their ballots and cast their votes to elect Virginia’s new governor. Our current governor, Ralph Northam, has served in office since 2018 and his time is about to end. The two people who are in the current election for Virginia’s new governor is previous governor Terry McAuliffe and then Glen Younkin. Terry McAuliffe is a Democrat whose beliefs lie strictly with these states and countries current crisis. He believes that everyone should wear masks in school and if eligible, should get vaccinated. He also believes we should follow the CDC guidelines to help keep Virginia as safe as possible. Glen Younkin, who is a Republican, has some different views on what’s best for Virginia. Younkin believes that parents should be the ones to decide what’s best for their kids. He thinks that kids should not get vaccinated and not have to wear masks if parents don’t think it’s the best thing for them.
Glen Younkin is running for governor for the first time. According to his official website, he’s not a politician, he is a homegrown Virginian and he’s spent the last 30 years raising his family, serving in our church, and building business and creating jobs. He is guided by his faith, values, and an unshakeable belief that Virginia should be the best. He also has helped fund the retirements of teachers, police officers, firefighters and other frontline public servants and supported hundreds of thousands of American jobs. His belief for helping Virginia out is parents should be the ones to take the action. Younkin believes that parents will have the best incite for their kids on the level of safety. He wants parents to be the ones to decide if their kids will get vaccinated or not and whether they should wear masks or not. Terry McAuliffe has some other ideas however on how to make Virginia the best it can possibly be.
Terry McAuliffe served as the 72nd Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia from 2014-2018. Being from a middle-class family and being the youngest child, he is committed to lifting hard working families like the one he grew up in. As represented on his official website, since Covid-19 started, it has been his mission to help Virginia in the best way possible. It is McAuliffe’s plan to build a stronger, more equitable, post-Covid economy. Terry’s plan is to rebuild our economy and help especially with small business of those owned by black and brown people who have been hit the hardest since the pandemic. Another one of his goals is to try to get as many people vaccinated as he can. He would like as many students that are below age 18 to get the vaccine so everyone can stay as safe and healthy as they can this fall. He also is a strong believer in masks and believe they will give us the extra protection we need along with the vaccine to help keep us safe and healthy so we can return to our normal lives.
Williamsburg, which is Virginia’s most historic town, has recently shown favor to electing Glen Younkin for governor, however a city on the outskirts of D.C. (Fairfax) is leaning more towards voting for Terry McAuliffe. It’s unclear what most cities and people will do as recent ads have mentioned people changing their political party to match with the candidate, they think will be best for Virginia. It is our civic duty to vote, so when election comes will you be ready?
UPDATE: Glen Younkin was the winner of the 2021 Virginia election.
We can except major changes from Glen Younkin in the coming weeks. He will support more parent involvement in school choice for our kids, and likely walk back requirements to wear masks in school or to get vaccinated.
