Greece is a country known for its deep-rooted culture and beautiful architecture. With everything from coastal views to ancient ruins, it’s no wonder Greece attracts more than 31 million visitors a year. This makes Greece one of the most visited countries and Europe, and even the world. Often times this country is viewed as an escape from the real world, on account of its almost whimsical feel. If you are considering a trip to Greece, post-COVID of course, you might be overwhelmed by all of your options. In this article, you can learn about some of the best places to visit in Greece and what makes each of them so special and unique.

The first place on our list is Meteora. This Greek word translates to “suspended in the air.”  That is no surprise considering that Meteora is a collection of beautiful cliffs that are elevated more than 1,200 feet in the air. These cliffs overlook the Kalambaka and Kastraki villages in the north central mainland of Greece. Although Meteora is spectacular in and of itself, the real attractions are the monasteries that are seated atop the cliffs. These date all the way back to the 14th century when monks built these as a spiritual getaway. If you are interested in learning more about the monasteries themselves, you may want to check out this article. https://www.touropia.com/meteora-monasteries/

Athens is the capital city of Greece, so it’s no wonder that it is such a popular tourist destination. Right in the middle of the city you can see the Parthenon in all of it’s glory. You can even see that it is under construction in order to continue the preservation of the ancient building . (A.Savin)

Next, we have Crete. Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and considered one to be more of a metropolitan city. This is a wonderful place to stay if you wish to have access to not only bustling nightlife, but also a calm countryside. This city is rooted in history and there are even some traces left of the ancient civilizations which used to inhabit it. Some of the top attraction in Crete include the Agios Nikoloas, Rethymnon Old Town, and the Palace of Knossos. Each of these places captures a unique aspect of Crete. City, small town, and history. These are simply a few of the wonderful things you will find in Crete.

From this photo, Delphi may seem like just another ancient ruin, however the history and culture behind this spot is what makes it such a compelling destination to visit.

Next, and perhaps the most well-known part of Greece, is Athens. Although Athens seems to be the most touristy location in Greece, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying all it has to offer. This city has been inhabited for over 3,00 years and is known as the birthplace of Democracy. This city is known for its ancient ruins, most notably the Parthenon. However, Athens is also a center for business in Greece and, similar to Crete, has a large variety of nightlife. Not only is Athens a historical beauty, but it might just be one of the most beautiful cities outwardly as well.

Finally, we have Delphi. This is Greece’s most popular archeological site. It is about 2 and a half hours from Athens and nestled within Mount Parnassus. This ancient spot was dedicated to the god, Apollo. People used to come to this spot and seek wisdom about things such as farming, relationships, or politics. Whether you are interested by the history of Delphi, or simply interested in the beautiful architecture, this Greek spot can be enjoyed by all.

These are simply a few of the magnificent sites that Greece has to offer. There is something for everyone in this secluded country, and anyone looking for a vacation destination might find exactly what they are looking for in Greece!
