Fashion Through a Camera Lens at the 2021 Golden Globes
See how Hollywood’s most famous actors and actresses dressed for the cameras.
Starting in 1994, the Golden Globes is known to be a one of a kind night. From honoring the years best films and actors, we see a room full of talented and brilliant actor, actresses, directors, and so on.
One staple of this award show is the fashion.
The red carpet is a place where men, women, and all people come dressed to the nines. Many designers are featured such as Giorgio Armani, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. 2021 offered a spin on the fashion of the Golden Globes due to Covid-19. Most attendees were to attend the award show online, not giving much room for the extravagant red carpet looks to be shown. Nonetheless, many powerful women dressed as if they were on the carpet in person. As for the men, t-shirts and messy hair seemed to be a common theme this year.
There were two official red carpets, one in Beverly Hills and one in New York. Both carpets had very few members walk along it and social distance rules were in place. Fashion is a principal in this years agenda, and many people were glad to see and review the best 2021 Golden Globes looks.
Starting off with a look everyone was talking about, we see Anya Taylor-Joy, who won the award for ‘best performance by an actress in a mini-series or motion picture made for television’ for her performance in “The Queens Gambit,” in a beautiful emerald, shimmering green dress. Provided by Dior Haute Couture, her outfit seemed to capture the eyes of many and impress the people of America. Sophie Contrucci defined her look as “brilliantly show-stopping and the blonde hair was a staple to the outfit.” Continuing on with the 2021 fashion look, nominee for ‘director of a motion picture’ Regina King appeared in a half sparkling black dress, made by Louis Vuitton. Courtesy of the official Louis Vuitton Instagram, we see King outside bathed in the sun, giving her dress the perfect amount of sparkle to maker her shine. Even though these stunning dresses were shown through a camera lens, these dresses did not go to waste by many looks being shown off through Instagram and other social media platforms, along with television.
Next we see “The Great” star Elle Fanning in a dreamy blue silk dress by Gucci, paired with glamorous detailed shoulder straps and diamond earrings. Cynthia Erivo in Valentino was one of the lucky guests to star on the red carpet in 2021. Her neon green dress and tan hand gloves were unforgettable and one to stand out during the night.
After appreciating the beautiful women of the night, we must take some time to discuss the male attendees this year. Suits with many different colors, fits, accessories, and more were showcased this year, redefining men’s fashion once again. The star from the hit TV series ‘The Crown,’ Josh O’Connor, was pictured in a Loewe suit. His suit was simple, yet suited him in an elegant way. The white and dark contract of the jacket and pants was classic and refined. O’Connor went home with an award for ‘actor in a drama TV series.’ Jackson Lee decided to go with a simple black and white suit from Gucci, but with a spin. He added a stylish green and pink accented robe on top to finish the look. Both men looked extremely charming and sophisticated from wherever the were tuning in.
No award show would be complete without its hosts. This year at the 78th Golden Globes, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return as hosts to put on a wonderful show. As always, these wonderful women put on some beautiful outfits to host in. Both Fey and Poehler opted for a sophisticated and chic black suit. Fey paired hers with a glittering black undershirt while Poehler kept hers al black accented with a white bow tie. These two looks show off the power of women in 2021. Emily Sullivan stated, “The two women put on a funny, enjoyable covid friendly show.”
Although this award show was not in an elegant show room with crowds of people chatting and laughing at jokes, many talented people were awarded what they deserved, and people still had a wonderful time. Communicating through a screen did not limit any designers or persons mind in what to design and wear. From blue dresses, to black suits, to green robes, these attendees had their 2021 fashion moment and owned it.
