The Underdogs
The Chicago Cubs are taking on the Cleveland Indians in the 2016 World Series Championship. Game one was held on Tuesday October 25th. This World Series is anything but normal: two underdogs going head-to-head in a 7 game war. The Indians haven’t won a world series since 1997, which is a normal span between championships. However, the Cubs are a whole different story. The Chicago Cubs have not won a world Series since 1908 and haven’t appeared in one since 1945. For years, they have been the laughing stock of baseball, but this year is different.
The Cubs lead teams in almost all performance categories. The most important category they are winning in is their record. The Cubs went 103-58. That’s 9 games above anyone else and 18 games above any team in their division. They have shattered their 2014 season record of 73-89. So it’s clear why everyone is pulling for the Cubs to win, they’ve been terrible and everyone roots for the underdog to come out on top because they have been suffering for decades. There’s nothing wrong with that. However, it may leave quite a few people disappointed if the Cleveland Indians crush the Cubs’ dreams.
UPDATE: The Cubs break the 108-year curse!! The Chicago Cubs take the world series title home for the first time in a century after defeating the Indians in extra innings of game seven.
