Local Elections Report Card
With all of the focus on the big presidential showdown between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, you could easily forget that on November 8th other candidates are running for re-election. These positions include The United States’ House of Representatives and the Virginia House of Delegates.
Running for the House of Representatives 2nd district are Shaun Brown and Scott Taylor. Shaun Brown is running for the Democratic party and has described herself as “a progressive Democrat, business woman, community activist, and the choice for change this November.” Scott Taylor, a former Navy SEAL, is running for the Republican party and his position is, “ I am running for Congress because Washington is broken. We are not better off today than at the beginning of the century.”
On a smaller and more direct level, there are two candidates running for the Virginia House of Delegates 93rd district. Heather Cordasco is the first, and she is running on the Republican ticket. Cordasco’s main focus is “to bring jobs to the district, strengthen our local schools and fight traffic congestion.” On the flip side, running for the Democratic party is Mike Mullen. Mullen is putting his focus towards “investing in education, growing the economy and expanding affordable healthcare.”
Election day is more than just when Clinton and Trump will battle it out in the polls. It is also the day smaller elections occur which will have more direct impact on our life.
