Lafayette Field Hockey Season 2018
How are the girls looking after their shocking loss at Powhatan last year?
The ladies have started a program this year called “Little Ram” where they get an elementary school student to come out to our game and they give them a field hockey stick in order to encourage them to play in the future!
The Rams field hockey team is coming in strong to start this season. Most of the varsity team is returning players, however majority are seniors this year; 9 to be exact. The ladies started off the season with a 2-0 win over Kechoughtan and another win in overtime against 5A Matoaca High School out of Petersburg. The team is looking to make it into states this year after the tough loss last season in the regional final against Powhatan which ended their season right before states began. The captains of this season are Ramsay Smith, Janai Sandlin, Carly Orlowski, and Jacquelyn Boesler. These 4 seniors say they are working harder than ever in order to meet all their goals for this season and are looking towards many wins in the future.
Although the season is hard work, the girls always find ways to have some fun.

The Rams have a tough game Monday, September 17th against powerhouse Tabb High School.
“We just have to go in with a positive mindset, and play our game, and do what we know. Most importantly we must work as a team” says Ramsay.
Another senior, Baylie Gentry says “Even though its my first year playing field hockey, I believe our team chemistry is stronger than a lot of teams out there.”
Coach Kelley Engstom has been working hard on the girls in order to prepare them for the many challenging games ahead.
Over the summer some of the girls attended The University of Marylands overnight filed hockey camp in order to prepare for the season.
The Rams next home game is on September 24th against York at Wanner Stadium at 7 pm.
“We want lots of fans there, the more people we have cheering for us, the better we perform” says Jacquelyn.
Rebounding from last seasons loss just fires the team up even more to redeem themselves. Although they lost two strong defenders, the Rams’ defense is working hard in order to fill those spots! Be sure to make it out to watch Lafayette, as they strive to reach their goal! They have many more games left, the season is just beginning.
