Rams fight the good fight, succumb to Smithfield Packers, 0-5

On Friday, your Rams fell for the first time all season to the Smithfield Packers.  For those of you who made it to the match – the good news was there was finally some warm weather! The opening kickoff was given to your Rams but we were working against a 20 mph wind and we had a little difficulty working the ball up the pitch.  As a result, the Rams were on the defensive for much of the match and we succumbed to a scramble for the ball in front of our net in the 18th minute of the match.  Even though we were down, the Rams were still playing tough, hard-nosed soccer.

However in the 39th minute (right before the half) we fouled our opponent in the box and gave them a PK with only seconds on the clock.  At the half it was 0-2 in favor of the Packers and by the end it was a lead that we found insurmountable.  After trying some risky offensive adjustments in the second half, we exposed our defense more than necessary and gave up two goals in the 55thand 62nd minute.  In the 71st minute, after unsuccessfully trying to clear a ball, we accidentally put the ball in our own net.

The final was 0-5 but I will say our young Rams learned a lot from this match.  Tonight (Monday, April 16), we play cross town rival Warhill in a Varsity double header at Wanner stadium.  We could really use your support and we hope to see you there.  The girls play at 5:30 and the boys at 7:15.  Thanks for your continued support.
