Earlier this month, Republicans from the House released a “secret” memo written by Devin Nunes and his staff. The memo focused on assertions that the FBI relied on politically motivated sources to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act on Carter Page during the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Carter Page served as a foreign poli  Republican lawmakers who support the memo argue that it shows misuse the FBI in order to sabotage Donald Trump’s presidency. Donald Trump himself supported the release of the memo, even against the wishes of the intelligence community. Trump stated that the purported bias was a “disgrace”.
Democratic lawmakers have written a response to the Republican memo but its release was blocked by President Trump, who reasoned that it could jeopardize national security.

However, the same thing was stated by the Intelligence community about the Republican memo but was released nonetheless by Donald Trump. Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer said “The president’s double standard when it comes to transparency is appalling.”

The release of this memo has been the most explicit effort yet to discredit the investigation into ties between Russian Interference and the Trump campaign. Time will tell if Trump will allow the Democratic memo to be released.
