As the Lady Ram field hockey team approaches their first regional post season game Monday, October 30th at Grafton High School, let’s take a look back over the path that led them to this point.

The Rams opened the season with two great wins against Woodside High School and Salem High School. They went 2-5 in the Bay Rivers District with wins against Jamestown (2-1) and Bruton (1-0), and losses against Poquoson, Warhill, York, Tabb, and New Kent. Though the Lady Rams record is not as impressive as they wanted it to be, they fought hard every game and came close many times.

Team captains Lauren Walker, Meredith Pons, and Ramsay Smith say the team is fired up for their first regional game. “We came close against Grafton the first time with played them, we have developed more as a team and believe we can win this one.” said Walker. The team has been working on many different things to prepare them for the biggest game of the season.

Outside of field hockey, the girls work with the community as well.  They volunteered at the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex with One Child Center for Autism. While there, the girls worked with kids with disabilities, taking the lead with activities like playing soccer and other field games, as well as supervising the gymnastics room as the children bounced on the trampolines and dove into the foam pit! The kids had a wonderful time with the team, whose goal it was to make it a night to remember.

Nearing the end of the season and looking back, Coach Engstrom is very proud of the girls for what they accomplished and can’t wait to see what next year has to offer!
