Mrs. Smith spends her days in the 100’s working with some of our most special students.

Meet Mrs. Kristine Smith, one of our extraordinary Special Ed teachers!

 

What do you do/teach here? 

Special Education Self Contained

 

Why did you come to LHS and how many years have you been here? 

It was the only school with an opening position in Special Education and I started 2005.

 

What college did you go to? 

St. Mary’s College of Maryland

 

Why did you decide to teach? 

I always had a desire to help those with special needs.

 

What do you love about your job? 

I love to see my students learn and become as independent as possible.

Do you have any advice for young people today? 

Follow your heart and passion and stick with it no matter what obstacles come your way.

 

If you could meet anyone from any time in the past, who would you choose and why? 

Ronald Reagan because I always admired him and his life.

 

What are your hobbies? 

Bike riding and hiking

 

 What is your ideal vacation?  

Warm sunny weather on an exotic beach with clear blue water in a luxury hotel with all the amenities like a spa, messages, snorkeling, great food/drinks etc.

 

When you were in High School, what was your dream job?  

Working with special needs people.

 

What is your favorite cheese? 

Gouda!

 

If you were stranded on a remote desert island, which three other LHS teachers would choose to have there with you? 

Kirsten Snyder, Lorena Flint, Ruben Cimbron.

 

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?  

On a farm in the south with lots of grassy land and a pig.

 

If you got supernatural powers by being bitten by an animal, which animal would it be and why? 

A penguin- then the cold wouldn’t bother me, and I could be outside no matter how cold it got.

 

If you were to coach a sport, which one would you choose and why? 

Softball- my daughters both played from ages 10-18.

 

 What’s your favorite color M&M?  

I don’t have one, they all taste the same to me.
