Lafayette Spotlight! Mairead Connelly

Meet Miss Connelly! Did you know that her favorite cheese is Port Salut?

What do you do/teach here?

      I’m a School Counselor of WJCC’s Non-Traditional Programs

Why did you come to LHS and how many years have you been here?

This is my first year at WJCC, and I recently moved to Virginia from New York.

What college did you go to?

I went to Roanoke College for undergrad, and I went to Mercy College (NY) for graduate       school.

Why did you decide to teach/work here?

I chose to work here because I had experience in alternative education, and with the plans of expanding the program, I thought this would be a really good opportunity to learn more about alternative education and to bring new ideas to the table.

What do you love about your job?

I love collaborating with teachers and staff from each school to ensure we are doing everything we can for each individual student. I enjoy being the advocate for students who, for a variety of different reasons, did not find success in a traditional high school and are now finding success in WJCC’s Non-traditional programs, such as the Learning Lab.

If you could meet anyone from any time in the past, who would you choose and why?

Hoda Kotb because her positivity and ability to connect with people from all walks of life is inspiring.

What’s your favorite cheese?

Port Salut.

What’s your favorite place you’ve ever traveled to?

Paris, France.
