Prom: Then and Now

Over the years Lafayette’s prom has changed with the fashion, and trends over the years. The clothing, music, venue, and prices has all adapted to its student body.
Girls spend all day getting ready. They have to do their hair and makeup, but most important of all, he dress. The dress can make or break the night. In 1993 poof and ruffles were in. Long lace dresses and long slits were also up on the rise, as far as colors went, anything dark was the way to go. Girls were spending anywhere from $85-1,000. The style in 2017 is a little bit different, brighter colors are in and the dresses are simple. There is a mix between body-con and flowy style dresses.
The boys today generally wear the traditional black and white tuxedos. In 1993 boys started wearing color tuxedos in addition to the traditional black and white.
In 1993 popular artist played at prom ranged from Nirvana, Aerosmith, and Billy Joel. Today popular artist who were played at prom were Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Migos, along with
The tradition was broken in 1993 of holding prom at the usual location, William and Mary Hall. Instead, they held prom in the Potomac Hall at the George Washington Inn which is all the way out in York county. This year in 2017 prom was held at William and Mary Sadler Center.
The ticket prices have also increased over the years. In 1993 they were $25 for a single ticket and $30 for a couple. In 2001 a single ticket was $21 and for a couple it was $40. This year in 2017 the price for a single ticket was $35 and for a couple it was $50. The single tickets have increased by ten dollars and the couple tickets have increased by twenty dollars.
Only time will tell what prom will be like in the upcoming years. Who knows maybe ruffled and lace dresses will make a comeback.
